Begin Your Family Bee’s Wax Candle Making Custom

February 1st, 2010

Can you produce candles as a family? The answer is absolutely yes!   Creating bee’s wax candles is easy and enjoyable for the entire family, because of the simple procedure involved.  Bee’s wax candles are usually found in churches or on dining tables.  Bee’s wax candle making involves rolling the beeswax, melting and forming the wax, or pouring melted wax in containers.   You can purchase bee’s wax in sheets and in solid blocks.

The difference between these two forms of bee’s wax has something to do with the procedure involved in making candles from the natural materials.  You will require a double boiler, a heat source and a number of holders or containers for producing candles out of beeswax lumps.  This is the regular way of crafting beeswax candles, which is similar to the procedure used for making paraffin type candles.  If you’re working by yourself, you can go for the conventional way of candle making, but you cannot let your children get too near the heat source because of the risks involved.  If you are going to let your kids help in the making of bee’s wax candles, you should go for the unconventional method.

The unconventional process will involve the usage of bee’s wax sheets.  In this process, you do not need to use heat or a double boiler.  This means you don’t have to use heat since you will not be melting wax.  The only part of the process that isn’t kid-friendly is the cutting of the bee’s wax sheets.

If you’re in a hurry, you can purchase pre-cut wax sheets from craft merchants instead of cutting the sheets at home.  But, if you want to make stouter, taller or bulkier candles, it’s worthwhile to learn how to slice these bee’s wax sheets into your ideal width and length.  If you are going to cut the wax, use razor-sharp craft scissors.

You can also use a craft knife or an average paring knife.  Your finished product’s height will depend on the measurement lengthwise of your wax sheet.  You can effortlessly generate pointed candles by varying the way you cut your bee’s wax.  You will need to prime the wicks and place them on the sheets of bee’s wax prior to letting the younger family members handle the sheets.

Wick priming involves covering the wick in melted bee’s wax and letting it cool.  Place the wick on one end of the bee’s wax sheet and fold the side of the sheet over the primed wick.

Now, we get to the enjoyable part.

Provide one sheet of bee’s wax to your family members and let them roll the bee’s wax sheet into a taut tube.  This is the fun part because it’s similar to rolling dough for cookie making.  Little kids might require some help rolling the wax.  The proper method of rolling the wax is to exert a firm but gentle force to roll the wax.  Rolling bee’s wax is feasible for the reason that the bee’s wax sheets are bendable enough to be molded manually.  Don’t worry about adding dye to your rolled bee’s wax candles as some shops dye the bee’s wax sheets.  Choose pastel colors to persuade your younger members to participate in your new family custom.
